The purpose of the paper is to characterize those semilattices that give rise to Boolean spaces (also known as Stone spaces) on their associated spaces of ultrafilters, semilattices which the author calls compactable. In what follows, by ``semilattice'' we mean ``meet-semilattice with both 0 and 1''. The author proves that a semilattice is compactable iff every of its tight filters is an ultrafilter, both by using previous results on tight filters and compactable semilattices, and directly, starting from the definitions of these notions and a series of lemmas he proves. Then the author obtains criteria for compactability that only use ultrafilters, at the cost of restricting the class of semilattices considered. He uses this research to obtain a characterization of \(0\)-disjunctive semilattices, which are important in the theory of congruence-free inverse semigroups. Finally, the author gives examples of compactable semilattices which are not Boolean algebras, thus proving that this theory that he has developed is not vacuous.
