This paper studies the numerical solution of singularly perturbed quasilinear systems of two first-order ordinary differential equations with suitable initial conditions. The solution of these initial value problems exhibits initial-layer near \(x=0\). Therefore, classical numerical methods fail to yield satisfactory numerical approximate solutions of uniform meshes. To overcome this difficulty, one has to use layer-adapted meshes, and apply the finite difference scheme to get parameter-uniform convergence results. Here, the authors discretize the domain by the piecewise-uniform Shishkin mesh and the Bakhvalov mesh, and apply two hybrid schemes to obtain second-order parameter-uniform convergence results. The hybrid schemes are a proper combination of the trapezoidal scheme (midpoint upwind scheme) where the local mesh width is smaller than the singular perturbation parameters and the implicit Euler scheme elsewhere. The hybrid schemes provide second-order convergence results, error estimates are obtained. To validate the theoretical results, numerical examples are given.
