The author studies the permanence of some approximation properties such as weak amenability of discrete quantum groups under natural constructions. Weak amenability is crucial to understand the operator algebras associated to quantum groups: see, for example, [\textit{Y. Isono}, Int. Math. Res. Not. 2015, No. 11, 3619--3650 (2015; Zbl 1332.46072)] and [\textit{P. Fima} and \textit{R. Vergnioux}, Int. Math. Res. Not. 2015, No. 20, 10069--10094 (2015; Zbl 1378.46055)]. Since the work of \textit{M. Brannan} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 672, 223--251 (2012; Zbl 1262.46048)] on the Haagerup property for the free orthogonal and free unitary quantum groups, much effort has been devoted to the study of approximation properties for discrete quantum groups. The paper under review shows that many of the permanence results that hold for discrete groups also hold in the quantum case. After some observations concerning weak amenability and the Haagerup property for direct products and inductive limits, the author shows that the Haagerup property and weak amenability with Cowling-Haagerup constant equal to \(1\) is stable under amalgamated free products over a finite quantum subgroup. This improves the result of the author in [C. R., Math., Acad. Sci. Paris 350, No. 7--8, 403--406 (2012; Zbl 1252.46058)]. The author also shows that, as in the classical case, the amenability relative to a discrete quantum subgroup implies the amenable equivalence of the associated von Neumann subalgebra [\textit{C. Anantharaman-Delaroche}, Pac. J. Math. 171, No. 2, 309--341 (1995; Zbl 0892.22004)] and also that the correspondence associated to the quasi-regular representation weakly contains the identity correspondence. Finally, the author gives an example: a discrete quantum group is amenable relative to any finite index subgroup and some corollaries concerning property (T), Cowling-Haagerup constants, the Haagerup property and hyperlinearity in connexion with the relative amenability.
