Invariant subspaces with no generator and a problem of H. Helson (Q5962673)

The author of the article under review considers a dense discrete subgroup \(\Gamma\) of \({\mathbb R}\) equipped with the discrete topology. Let \(K\) be the dual group of characters and let \(\sigma\) be normalized Haar measure on \(K\). The author considers the Hardy class \(H^2(\sigma)\) and its subspace \(H^2_0(\sigma)\). The purpose of the paper is to prove that \(H^2_0(\sigma)\) cannot be generated by one of its elements.
