It is known that the maximal operator of the Cesàro means of the Walsh-Fourier series of a one-dimensional function is bounded from the dyadic Hardy space \(H_p\) to \(L_p\) if \(1/(\alpha+1)<p<\infty\) and it is not bounded if \(0<p\leq 1/(\alpha+1)\). In this paper it is shown that the modified maximal operator is already bounded from \(H_p\) to \(L_p\) if \(0<p<1/(\alpha+1)\). Moreover, a strong mean of the Cesàro means is also bounded on \(H_p\) if \(0<p<1/(\alpha+1)\).
