In the paper under review, the authors provide higher order convergence rates in periodic homogenization theory for both linear and nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations of non-divergence form. For \(\epsilon>0\), let \(u^\epsilon\) be the solution of the \(\epsilon\)-dependent problem \[ a_{ij}(x/\epsilon)D_{ij}u^{\epsilon} =f \quad \text{in }\Omega, \qquad u^\epsilon=g \quad \text{on }\partial \Omega, \] where the matrix \(A(\cdot)=(a_{ij}(\cdot))_{1\leq i, j\leq n}\) satisfies periodicity, uniform ellipticity and regularity assumptions. As is well known, the solutions \(u^\epsilon\) converge as \(\epsilon \to 0\) to the solution \(u\) of the homogenized limit problem \[ \overline{a}_{ij}D_{ij}u =f \quad \text{in }\Omega, \qquad u^\epsilon=g \quad \text{on }\partial \Omega, \] for a suitable matrix \(\overline{A}=(\overline{a}_{ij})_{1\leq i,j\leq n}\). The authors give a quantitative analysis on the rate of convergence of \(u^\epsilon\) to \(u\) and provide a rigorous justification of an expansion of the type \[ u^\epsilon(x)=u(x)+\epsilon(w_1^\epsilon(x)+z_1^\epsilon(x))+\dots+ \epsilon^m (w_m^\epsilon(x)+z_m^\epsilon(x))+O(\epsilon^{m-1}). \] Analogous results are shown for the convergence of the solutions \(u^\epsilon\) of suitable nonlinear problems \[ F(D^2u^\epsilon,x,x/\epsilon) =0 \quad \text{in }\Omega,\qquad u^\epsilon=g \quad \text{on }\partial \Omega, \] to the solution \(u\) of the nonlinear limit equation \[ \overline{F}(D^2u,x) =0 \quad \text{in }\Omega,\qquad u=g \quad \text{on }\partial \Omega. \]
