In this paper, the Feynman propagator is defined as the inverse of a wave operator that generalizes the standard Feynman propagator on Minkowski space. It acts as a map between certain Banach spaces. The basic object is a manifold with some boundary equipped with a Lorentzian metric, which at infinity resembles the Minkowsky space. The authors expect that their results might be useful in QFT on curved space-times. They quote and make use of a paper by \textit{J. J. Duistermaat} and \textit{L. Hörmander} on Fourier integral operators published in [Acta Math. 128, 183--269 (1972; Zbl 0232.47055)]. This work was used to provide a microlocal characterization of Hadamard states and has later been extended by various authors to give a new pseudo-differential construction of Hadamard states. The paper is organized as follows. In Section 1, the reader is introduced to the rich history of the subject and what is achieved in the present paper. In Section 2, the underlying geometry and the wave operator is described. In Section 3, Fredholm properties are established. In Section 4, it is shown that in Minkowski space the Feynman propagator turns out to be limit of an elliptic problem achieved by a Wick rotation. Finally, in Section 5, semilinear wave equations are studied in the standard Feynman framework.
