When the space \(X\) is semilocally 1-connected, it is well-known that the fundamental groupoid \(\Pi_{1}(X)\) can be endowed with a structure of topological groupoid. In the paper under review, the author shows that a similar process can be applied fibrewise. More precisely, if \(p: Y\to X\) is a map, the vertical fundamental groupoid \(\Pi_{1}^{\mathrm{Vert}}(p)\) is defined from vertical paths and homotopies. When certain local connectivity assumptions are satisfied, the author defines a topology making of \(\Pi_{1}^{\mathrm{Vert}}(p)\) a topological groupoid over the space \(X\). Applications to fibrewise universal covering spaces, 2-bundles and topological fundamental bigroupoids are given.
