Most of this paper is concerned with general results on finite-dimensional (or satisfying chain conditions) Hopf algebras in braided categories which generalize well-known results from finite group theory, e.g., Fitting's lemma and the Krull-Remak-Schmidt decomposition, and also a study of endomorphisms and automorphisms of products of Hopf algebras. These are applied to describe the automorphism group of the Drinfeld double \(\mathcal D(G)\) of a finite group \(G\). When \(G\) has no nontrivial abelian direct factor, this was done by the first author [Algebr. Represent. Theory 18, No. 5, 1267-1297 (2015; Zbl 1354.16042)]. For the remaining case \(G=C\times H\), \(C\) abelian and \(H\) having no abelian direct factor, \(\mathcal D(G)\) is isomorphic to the tensor product of \(\mathcal D(C)\) and \(\mathcal D(H)\). The authors thus study endomorphisms and automorphisms of a tensor product of two Hopf algebras, generalizing an analysis of \textit{J. N. S. Bidwell} on automorphisms of direct products groups [Arch. Math. 91, No. 2, 111-121 (2008; Zbl 1185.20023)], where an automorphism is described by a matrix of morphisms between the two factors. This leads to an analog of Fitting's lemma, which produces tensor products from binormal endomorphisms. The analog of the Krull-Remak-Schmidt decomposition is obtained without assuming semisimplicity (only chain conditions). The semisimple case had been studied by \textit{S. Burciu} [Cent. Eur. J. Math. 9, No. 4, 905-914 (2011; Zbl 1263.16031)].
