In this paper the authors investigate in details centers of Leavitt path algebras by using certain properties of the defining graphs. For this aim, they introduce the notion of extreme cycles as cycles with exits such that every path starting at the cycle connects to the cycle. They show that the ideal generated by the set \(P_{ec}(E)\) of vertices in these extreme cycles is a direct sum of purely infinite simple rings. The three sets \(P_l(E)\) of line vertices, \(P_c(E)\) of vertices in cycles without exits and \(P_{ec}(E)\) play important role in the possible description of the centers of Leavitt path algebras. In particular the authors describe explicitly the center of every row-finite graph.
