The paper under review is concerned with the study of orthogonal compact quantum groups with a fundamental unitary representation \((u_{ij})_{i,j=1}^n\) which are homogeneous (i.e., contain in a canonical way the classical permutation group \(S_n\) as a subgroup) and such that each \(u_{ij}^2\) is a central projection. These are shown to arise in a canonical way from a bicrossed product type construction involving \(S_n\) and a group \(\Gamma\) being a quotient of \(Z_2^{*n}\). Further, easy quantum groups in this class are proved to correspond to the situation where \(\Gamma\) is a strongly symmetric reflection group. The latter correspondence can be described explicitly on the level of partitions implementing the representation theory of the easy quantum group in question.NEWLINENEWLINETogether with certain group-theoretic facts this allows the authors to deduce the existence of uncountably many pairwise non-isomorphic easy quantum groups. It is also shown that for \(n\geq 3\) the hyperoctahedral quantum groups \(H_n^+\) contain homogeneous quantum subgroups which are not easy. Finally, the authors establish some properties of von Neumann algebras related to hyperoctahedral quantum groups and general de Finetti theorems in the context of the bicrossed products of the type studied in the paper.
