A probabilistic fixed point result using altering distance functions (Q5963948)

Summary: We prove a general fixed point theorem in Menger spaces for mappings satisfying a contractive condition of Ćirić type, formulated by means of altering distance functions. Thus, we extend some recent results of \textit{B. S. Choudhury} and \textit{K. Das} [Acta Math. Sin., Engl. Ser. 24, No. 8, 1379--1386 (2008; Zbl 1155.54026)], \textit{D. Miheţ} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl., Ser. A, Theory Methods 71, No. 7--8, 2734--2738 (2009; Zbl 1176.54034)], and \textit{N. A. Babačev} [Appl. Anal. Discrete Math. 6, No. 2, 257--264 (2012; Zbl 1289.54114)] and also clarify some aspects regarding a theorem of \textit{B. S. Choudhury} et al. [Acta Math. Hung. 122, No. 3, 203--216 (2009; Zbl 1265.54163)].
