The author develops natural methods for constructing Wallman compactifications and Wallman realcompactifications of uniform spaces. Some of the many results obtained are the following. For a uniform space \(uX\) he constructs uniformities \(u^z_p\) and \(u^z_\omega\) whose completions coincide with the Wallman compactification \(\omega(X,\mathcal Z_u)=\beta_uX\) (\(\equiv\) a \(\beta\)-like compactification) and the Wallman realcompactification \(\upsilon(X,\mathcal Z_u)=\upsilon_uX\), respectively, where the normal base \(\mathcal Z _u=\{f^{-1}(0): f\in C^\ast(uX)\}\) (Theorems 2.6 and 2.12). In Theorems 2.8 and 2.14 equivalent conditions are given for a compactification (realcompactification) to be the Wallman compactification (realcompactification). In Theorem 3.3 he sharpens results on the partial order in the lattice of compactifications of a space. Relations between dimensions of (real) compacatifications are given. Several examples are also presented.
