In this paper all spaces are assumed to be \(T_0\)-spaces of weight \(\leq \tau\), where \(\tau\) is a fixed infinite cardinal.NEWLINENEWLINEThe authors study the notion of a saturated class of spaces in the sense of S.D. Iliadis. It is known that there exist universal elements in saturated classes. Furthermore the intersection of saturated classes is also a saturated class, while the intersection of classes of spaces having universal elements need not have universal elements.NEWLINENEWLINEIt is stated that each of the following classes of spaces is saturated: The class of all basically extremally disconnected spaces, the class of all basically \(G_\delta\)-spaces, and the class of all basically regular spaces. A topological space \(X\) is called basically extremally disconnected if there exists a base \(B\) for \(X\) such that \(CL_X(U)\) is open in \(X\) for every \(U \in B\). A topological space \(X\) is called a basically \(G_\delta\)-space if there exists a base \(B\) for \(X\) such that \(CL_X(U)\) is a \(G_\delta\)-set in \(X\) for every \(U\in B\). A topological space \(X\) is called a basically regular space if there exists a base \(B\) for \(X\) such that \(Bd_X(U)\) is regular for every \(U\in B\).
