The main result of the paper under review states the following. Suppose \(q\) is a prime, and let \(A\) be an elementary abelian \(q\)-group of order at least \(q^3\). Let \(G\) be a profinite group on which \(A\) acts coprimely; this means that \(G\) is an inverse limit of finite groups whose orders are coprime to the order of \(A\). If for each non-trivial element \(a\in A\) the centraliser \(C_G(a)\) is locally nilpotent, then \(G\) itself is locally nilpotent. This results extends to the case of profinite groups results obtained in the finite case by \textit{J. N. Ward} [Bull. Aust. Math. Soc. 5, 281-282 (1971; Zbl 0221.20030)] and the second author [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 129, No. 12, 3479-3484 (2001; Zbl 0990.20015)].
