An \(L^p\) inequality for a polynomial and its derivative, due for \(p\geq 1\) to the authors [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 179, No. 1, 208-213 (1993; Zbl 0786.30006)]\ is extended to the case \(0\leq p<1\). The constants involved in the inequality are related with the location of the zeros for the polynomial. Optimality of the result is also proved.
