The book under review is the sixth edition of S. Bosch's popular University Text on basic abstract algebra, the first edition of which was published in 1992 (Zbl 0781.00001). The foregoing fifth edition appeared just two years ago, in 2004, with further minor modifications, additions, and improvements (Zbl 1037.00002), which have been reviewed back then. An Italian version was published in 2003 (cf. Unitext, Milano: Springer; Zbl 1103.00001). The present sixth edition is virtually the unaltered reprint of its predecessor, without any notable changes of this well-established text, and therefore we may unrestrictedly refer to the review of the fifth edition of it. However, it should be emphasized again that the necessity of another reprint of this textbook, after only two years, strikingly furnishes evidence for both its immense popularity at German-language Universities and its wide use among students and teachers. Also, it is one of the few textbooks on abstract algebra that offer complete solutions to all the (challenging) exercises to the various treated topics.
