    This paper is related to \(H\)-surfaces, i.e., surfaces with constant mean curvature \(H\) (\(\geq 0\)) in \(\mathbb{H}^2 \times \mathbb{R}\). An immersed \(H\)-sphere in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) is a round sphere and then \(H>0\) (see [\textit{H. Hopf}, Differential geometry in the large. Berlin, Springer-Verlag (1989; Zbl 0669.53001)]). An analogous result holds in \(\mathbb{H}^2 \times \mathbb{R}\): an immersed \(H\)-sphere in \(\mathbb{H}^2 \times \mathbb{R}\) is an embedded rotationally invariant \(H\)-sphere (see [\textit{U. Abresch} and \textit{H. Rosenberg}, Acta Math. 193, 141--174 (2004; Zbl 1078.53053)]) and then \(H>1/2\) (see [\textit{W.-T. Hsiang} and \textit{W.-Y. Hsiang}, Invent. Math. 98, 39--58 (1989; Zbl 0682.53057); \textit{B. Nelli} and \textit{H. Rosenberg}, Pacific J. Math. 226, 137--152 (2006; Zbl 1121.53042); \textit{B. Nelli} et al., Ann. Global Anal. Geom. 33, 307--321 (2008; Zbl 1141.53056)]). In particular, if \(0\leq H\leq 1/2\), then there exist no \(H\)-spheres in \(\mathbb{H}^2 \times \mathbb{R}\). According to the half-space theorem by \textit{D. Hoffman} and \textit{W. H. Meeks III} [Invent. Math. 101, 373--377 (1990; Zbl 0722.53054)], there exist no properly immersed non-flat minimal surfaces in a half-space of \(\mathbb{R}^3\), while there exist many entire minimal graphs and rotational minimal annuli contained in a slab of \(\mathbb{H}^2 \times \mathbb{R}\) (see [\textit{B. Nelli} and \textit{H. Rosenberg}, Bull. Braz. Math. Soc. (N.S.) 33, 263--292 (2002; Zbl 1038.53011)]). There exist other properly embedded minimal annuli of bounded height in \(\mathbb{H}^2 \times \mathbb{R}\), as proved in [\textit{L. Ferrer} et al., Math. Ann. 375, 541--594 (2019; Zbl 1439.53062)]. In this paper, the authors study \(H\)-surfaces in \(\mathbb{H}^2 \times \mathbb{R}\) with \(0<H\leq 1/2\). They prove that a properly embedded \(H\)-surface in \(\mathbb{H}^2 \times \mathbb{R}\) with \(0<H\leq 1/2\) and finite topology cannot be contained in any horizontal slab. In addition, they prove that if such a surface is contained in \(\mathbb{H}^2 \times [0, \infty )\), then the surface is a graph over a simply connected domain of \(\mathbb{H}^2\), which is entire if \(H=1/2\).
