The ``LS-category'' introduced by Lusternik and Schnirelmann in the 1930's has turned out to be an excellent tool in critical point theory but also in homotopy theory [\textit{O. Cornea} et al., Lusternik-Schnirelmann category. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (2003; Zbl 1032.55001)]. When \(G\) is a compact Lie group acting on a manifold, Fadell introduced the notion of equivariant LS-category in [\textit{E. Fadell}, Sémin. Math. Supér., Sémin. Sci. OTAN (NATO Adv. Study Inst.) 95, 41--70 (1985; Zbl 0575.58014)]. On the other side, when the action of \(G\) has finite stabilizers, one can construct an orbifold in the sense of [\textit{I. Satake}, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 42, 359--363 (1956; Zbl 0074.18103)]. When the group \(G\) is discrete, the authors of the work under review have introduced a notion of homotopy in the category of orbifolds in a previous paper [\textit{A. Ángel} and \textit{H. Colman}, Algebr. Geom. Topol. 23, No. 5, 1959--2008 (2023; Zbl 1519.18003)]. Here, they derive a definition of orbifold LS-category. Their main result is the equality of orbifold LS-category and equivariant LS-category for finite group actions.
