    Consider a set \(\Omega\subseteq \left[-\frac{\pi}{4};\frac{\pi}{4} \right]\). Let \(R_{\Omega}\) be a collection of all rectangles \(R\) in \(\mathbb{R}^2\) such that one side of \(R\) makes angle \(\omega\in\Omega\) with the \(x\)-axis. For any \(N\)-point set \(P\) from \([0;1]^2\) define the discrepancy \[D(P,R_{\Omega})=\sup\limits_{R\in R_{\Omega}} \left| |P\cap R|-N\cdot \mathrm{vol}(R\cap [0;1]^2) \right|\] and the optimal directional discrepany \(D(N,R_{\Omega})=\inf\limits_{|P|=N} D(P,R_{\Omega})\). It is known that \(N^{1/4} \lesssim D(N,R_{\left[-\frac{\pi}{4};\frac{\pi}{4} \right]}) \lesssim N^{1/4}\sqrt{\log N}\). Now assume \(\Omega=[-\theta;\theta]\) with \(0<\theta<\frac{\pi}{4}\). Then it is proved that there exists some \(\gamma>0\) such that for all \(N>\gamma\theta^{-5}\) we have \(D(N,R_{\Omega})>cN^{1/5}\) for some constant \(c\) independent of \(\theta\).
