Let \(X(\mathbb{R}^{d})\) be a rearrangement-invariant Banach function space. This class of spaces includes the Lebesgue, Orlicz, and Lorentz spaces. \textit{D. W. Boyd} [Can. J. Math. 19, 599--616 (1967; Zbl 0147.11302)] proved that the Hilbert transform is bounded on a rearrangement-invariant Banach function space \(X(\mathbb{R})\) if and only if certain indices associated to \(X(\mathbb{R})\) are nontrivial (nowadays known as Boyd indices). The authors extend this result for nondegenerate singular integral operators of convolution type on \(\mathbb{R}^{d}\). In particular, they obtain that the Riesz transforms are bounded on \(X(\mathbb{R}^{d})\) if and only if its Boyd indices are nontrivial.
