It is a natural problem in Riemannian geometry to understand the relation between curvature and topology of the underlying manifold. In the present paper the author proves the following result. Let \(R_g\) be the scalar curvature and \(W_g\) the Weyl curvature of a Riemannian metric \(g\) on a given smooth \(n\)-dimensional closed manifold \(M\). Then for every \(t \in\mathbb{R}\), there exists a smooth Riemannian metric \(g = g_t\) with \(R_g + t|W_g|_gg\equiv -1\) on \(M\). In particular, there are no topological obstructions for negative scalar Weyl curvature metrics. This extends the construction of metrics with constant negative scalar curvature in [\textit{T. Aubin}, J. Differ. Geom. 4, 383--424 (1970; Zbl 0212.54102)].
