In this paper the authors use Whitney maps within the class of generalized continua. Besides classical Whitney maps they use a special kind of such maps termed compactwise proper Whitney maps. They consider various types of connectedness and prove that they are Whitney properties. The authors show that Freudenthal ends are preserved by compactwise proper Whitney maps but not by ordinary Whitney maps and also that the number of strong ends is not a compactwise Whitney property.
