Nil algebras, Lie algebras and wreath products with intermediate and oscillating growth (Q6052166)

In this elegant paper, the authors construct finitely generated nil algebras with prescribed growth rates. In particular, any increasing submultiplicative function is realized as the growth function of a nil algebra up to a polynomial error term and an arbitrarily slow distortion. In the spirit of a theorem in [\textit{A. Ya. Belov} et al., J. Math. Sci., New York 87, No. 3, 3463--3575 (1997; Zbl 0927.16018)], the authors construct examples of nil algebras and domains with strongly oscillating growth functions and primitive algebras for which the Gel'fand-Kirillov dimension is strictly sub-additive with respect to tensor products, thus answering a question from [\textit{J. Krempa} and \textit{J. Okniński}, Math. Z. 194, 487--494 (1987; Zbl 0595.16019); \textit{P. Kůrka}, Topological and symbolic dynamics. Paris: Société Mathématique de France (2003; Zbl 1038.37011)]. Let me discuss briefly the proof techniques. They are based on the result of the paper [\textit{T. H. Lenagan} et al., Proc. Edinb. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 55, No. 2, 461--475 (2012; Zbl 1259.16022)] providing the existence of a finitely generated nil \(F\)-algebra of Gel'fand-Kirillov dimension at most 3. Then the authors also use the wreath product and natural techniques of linear maps to locally nilpotent algebra with oscillating growth.
