This paper concerns tracking control of some affine nonlinear systems based on utility functions. A related iterative adaptive dynamic programming algorithm based on a value function with the discount factor is presented. Then the convergence proof and the stability analysis of the value iteration algorithm are given. Moreover, the dual heuristic dynamic programming (DHP) by a costate function and the iterative process of the DHP algorithm are presented.
