Let \(\mathcal{T} (d, n)\) denote the set of all \(n \times n\) matrices, called width-one matrices, with nonnegative integer entries summing to \(d\), such that the nonzero entries lie along a path consisting of steps to the south and to the east. The authors present two explicit formulas for the sum of all matrices in \(\mathcal{T} (d, n)\).
