The complex representations of Iwahori-Hecke algebras are classified and parameterized by Kazhdan and Lusztig in [\textit{D. Kazhdan} and \textit{G. Lusztig}, Invent. Math. 87, 153--215 (1987; Zbl 0613.22004)]. The modular representations of Iwahori-Hecke algebras are much less well understood. For affine Weyl groups of type \({B}_n\), the representation theory of the corresponding Iwahori-Hecke algebras is understood; Dipper-James [\textit{R. Dipper} and \textit{G. James}, J. Algebra 146, No. 2, 454--481 (1992; Zbl 0808.20016)] and Dipper-James-Murphy [\textit{R. Dipper} et al., Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 70, No. 3, 505--528 (1995; Zbl 0829.20021)] constructed the simple \(\mathcal{H}_n=\mathcal{H}({B}_n)\)-modules and Ariki proved a branching rule and existence of a crystal structure on the set \[ \coprod_{n\geq 0}\{\text{isom. classes of simple}~\mathcal{H}_n-\text{modules}\}\tag{1} \] in [\textit{S. Ariki}, J. Algebra 306, No. 1, 290--300 (2006; Zbl 1130.20005)], which actually treats more general cyclotomic Hecke algebras and so also specializes to treat the case of type \(A\), as done by \textit{J. Brundan} and \textit{A. Kleshchev} [Represent. Theory 5, 317--403 (2001; Zbl 1005.17010)] and \textit{I. Grojnowski} [``Affine \(\mathfrak{sl}_p\) controls the representation theory of the symmetric group and related Hecke algebras'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:math/9907129}]. This gives a description of blocks and a relationship between the modular representation theory of the Iwahori-Hecke algebras and the characteristic zero representation theory of affine Lie algebras. The present paper establishes these three results in type \({D}_n\). The Iwahori-Hecke algebra \(\mathcal{H}_n=\mathcal{H}({B}_n)\) is known to be cellular, with its representations being given by the set \(\mathcal{K}_n\) of Kleschev bipartitions, which are certain bipartions \(\mathbf{\lambda}\) of \(n\). As noted by the authors, the same is true for the subject \(\mathcal{H}_n'=\mathcal{H}({D}_n)\) of the present paper, by work of \textit{M. Geck} [Invent. Math. 169, No. 3, 501--517 (2007; Zbl 1130.20007)]. However, as is usually the case in type \(D_n\), the relevant combinatorics become much more complicated. The present paper bypasses this complication by studying \(\mathcal{H}_n'\) as an index-two subalgebra of \(\mathcal{H}_n\) via the Clifford theory developed by the second author in [\textit{J. Hu}, Manuscr. Math. 108, No. 4, 409--430 (2002; Zbl 1016.20002)]. In addition to constructing a crystal structure on the analogue of (1), the authors obtain a modular branching rule for \(\mathcal{H}_n'\) similar to the known rules for types \({A}_n\) and \({B}_n\), implying some multiplicity-one results for two-step restriction to \(\mathcal{H}'_{n-2}\).
