Let \(f\) be a modular form of even integral weight \(k\) on the modular group \(\Gamma_0(N)\). The period polynomial associated to \(f\) is the polynomial of degree \(k-2\) defined by \(r(f;z)=\int_0^{i\infty}f(\tau)(\tau-z)^{k-2}d\tau\), and the odd period polynomial \(r_{-}(f;z)\) is defined by \(r_{-}(f;Z)=(r(f;z)-r(f;-z))/2\). If \(k\ge 4\), then Jin et al. showed that all zeros of \(r(f;z)\) are on the circle \(|z|=1/\sqrt N\). For a Hecke eigenform \(f\) on \(\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)\), \textit{J. B. Conrey} et al. [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2013, No. 20, 4758--4771 (2013; Zbl 1305.11030)] proved that the non-trivial zeros of \(r_{-}(f;z)\) are on the unit circle \(|z|=1\). The author determines the zeros of \(r_{-}(f;z)\) for a newform on \(\Gamma_0(2)\) of even integral weight \(k\ge 96\). He shows that \(r_{-}(f;z)\) has zeros at \(0,\pm 1,\pm 1/2\) and the rest of its zeros are on the circle \(|z|=1/\sqrt 2\). The first five zeros are deduced from two functional equations of \(r_{-}(f;z)\) obtained by using harmonic weak Maass forms and Eichler integral for \(f\). Let \(W_2\) be the Artin-Lehner involution for \(\Gamma_0(2)\) and \(f|W_2=\varepsilon f\). By comparing the function \(\sin(2\pi z)-\varepsilon\sin(\pi/z)\), the author shows that \(r_{-}(f;e^{i\theta}/\sqrt 2)\) has at least \(k-8\) roots in \(0\le\theta<2\pi\). Since the degree of \(r_{-}(f;z)= k-3\le 5+k-8\), the other zeros are on the circle \(|z|=1/\sqrt 2\).
