The notion of geometric finiteness was first introduced by \textit{L V. Ahlfors}, in [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 55, 251--254 (1966; Zbl 0132.30801)], in the context of Kleinian group actions on hyperbolic 3-space \(\mathbb{H}^{3}\). Subsequently, \textit{A. F. Beardon} and \textit{B. Maskit}, in [Acta Math. 132, 1--12 (1974; Zbl 0277.30017)], gave a dynamical characterization of geometrically finite groups in terms of an action on the limit set, now called the Beardon-Maskit condition In the paper under review the authors propose several common extensions of the classes of Anosov subgroups and geometrically finite Kleinian groups among discrete subgroups of semisimple Lie groups. They relativize various dynamical and coarse geometric characterizations of Anosov subgroups, extending the class from intrinsically hyperbolic to relatively hyperbolic subgroups. They prove implications and equivalences between the various relativizations. The paper is enriched by an appendix by G. A. Soifer regarding Auslander's theorem.
