Failure of \(L^p\) symmetry of zonal spherical harmonics (Q6062687)

The purpose of this paper is to prove that the 2-sphere does not exhibit symmetry of \(L_p\) norms of eigenfunctions of the Laplacian for \(p\ge 6\). The proofs use Darboux sum integral estimates of Legendre polynomials and Bessel functions of the first kind, dominated convergence theorem, partial fraction decomposition and the Riemann and Hurwitz zeta functions. The zeros of the first two above functions are crucial for these proofs.
