Let \(G\) be a simple linear algebraic group defined over an algebraically closed field \(F\) of characteristic \(p \geq 0\). An element \(g \in G\) is said to be regular if \(\dim C_{G}(g) = \mathrm{rank}(G)\); so in particular, a semisimple element \(s \in G\) is regular if and only if \(C_{G}(s)^{\circ}\) is a maximal torus of \(G\). Let \(T\) be a maximal torus of \(G\) and \(s \in T\), then \(s\) is \textit{Ad-regular} if \(\alpha(s) \not = \beta(s)\) for all distinct \(T\)-roots \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) of \(G\). Let \(\phi : G \rightarrow \mathrm{GL}(V)\) be a nontrivial rational representation of \(G\). The main result proved in this paper states that if all but one of the eigenvalues of \(\phi(s)\) are of multiplicity 1 then, with a few specified exceptions \(s\) is \textit{Ad-regular}. This can be viewed as an extension of an earlier work of the authors [Transform. Groups 20, No. 3, 831--861 (2015; Zbl 1359.20028)] that, under the same hypotheses, either \(s\) is regular or \(G\) is a classical group and \(\phi\) is ``essentially'' (a twist of) the natural representation of \(G\).
