In this article, Aaron Calderon and Nick Salter explore the link between abelian differentials and mapping class groups by studying the topological monodromy representations. The authors first introduce the \emph{framed mapping class group} \(\mathrm{Mod}_g ^n(\phi)\) as the stabilizer in \(\mathrm{Mod}(\Sigma_{g,n})\) of an isotopy class of the framed surface \((\Sigma_{g,n},\phi)\). They then recall the construction of the \emph{topological monodromy representations} \(\rho:\pi_1^{\text{orb}}\mathcal{H}\rightarrow \mathrm{Mod}(\Sigma_{g,n})\) for \(\mathcal{H}\) being the hyperelliptic component of the moduli space \(\Omega\mathcal{M}_g(\kappa)\) of abelian differentials of genus \(g\) with zeros of order \(\kappa\) in the partition \(\kappa\) of \(2g-2\). They first prove that for \(g\geq 5\), the groups \(\rho(\pi_1^{\text{orb}}\mathcal{H})\) and \(\mathrm{Mod}_g ^n(\widetilde{\phi})\) are isomorphic. Here \(\widetilde{\phi}\) is the absolute framing induced by the horizontal vector field on any surface of \(\Omega\mathcal{M}_g(\kappa)\). This description gives rise to an application on the realization of curves and arcs by framing. The second important part of this article is devoted to describing generators of the framed mapping class group. The authors prove that for \(g\geq 5\), \(n\geq 1\), \(\phi\) a framing of holomorphic type and \(\mathcal{C}\) an \emph{E-arboreal configuration} (a collection of curves whose intersection graph is a tree containing an \(\mathrm{E}_6\) Dynkin diagram as subgraph) such that \(\phi(c)=0\) for all \(c\in\mathcal{C}\), \(\mathrm{Mod}_g ^n(\widetilde{\phi})\) is generated by Dehn twists along curves of \(\mathcal{C}\). More generally, if \(\phi\) is a framing of holomorphic or meromorphic type, they find a collection of curves, an \emph{h-assemblage of type E} whose Dehn twists generate the framed mapping class group. This article describes a relationship between topological properties of curves and monodromy with geometric objects like abelian differentials.
