The authors study quasiconformal mappings in the context of Gromov \(\delta\)-hyperbolic spaces and Bonk-Heinonen-Koskela uniformization. One of the main results is the following theorem. Theorem. Suppose that \(f: \Omega \to \Omega'\) is a \(K\)-quasiconformal homeomorphism between two subdomains of \(\mathbb{R}^n\). If \(\Omega'\) is a \(c_1\)-uniform and \(G \subset \Omega\) is a \(c_2\)-uniform subdomain, then \(f(G)\) is a \(c_3\)-uniform subdomain of \(\Omega'\), where \(c_3\) depends only on \(n,K, c_1\) and \(c_2\). The proofs make use of the modulus \(M(\Gamma)\) of a curve family \(\Gamma\). In particular, the following two-sided inequality for the modulus of the curve family \(\Delta(E,F;\mathbb{R}^n)\) joining two non-degenerate disjoint continua \(E, F \) in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) has a crucial role \[ d_1 \log(1+r(E,F))\le M(\Delta(E,F;\mathbb{R}^n)) \le d_2 (1+r(E,F))^n, \] where \(r(E,F)= \min\{d(E),d(F)\}/d(E,F)\), and \(d_1, d_2\) depend only on \(n\). This inequality was perhaps first formulated in [the reviewer, J. Anal. Math. 45, 69--115 (1985; Zbl 0601.30025), Lemmas 2.39 (1) and 2.44]. It has found numerous applications to the study of conformal invariants and quasiconformal maps during the past four decades.
