In this paper, the long time behavior of the Hesse-Koszul flow on compact Hessian manifolds is studied. The authors characterize the maximal existence time of the Hesse-Koszul flow and show that the flow converges to a Hesse-Einstein metric, assuming that the first affine Chern class is negative. A convergence result for a twisted Hesse-Koszul flow on any compact Hessian manifold is also established. From the author's abstract: ''These results give alternative proofs for the existence of the unique Hesse-Einstein metric by \textit{S. Y. Cheng} and \textit{S. T. Yau} [The real Monge-Ampère equation and affine flat structures. Differential geometry and differential equations, Proc. 1980 Beijing Sympos., Vol. 1, 339-370 (1982; Zbl 0517.53020,)]. and \textit{L.
