For $k\geq4$ even, let $G_k$ be the Eisenstein series of weight $k$, normalized such that the linear term for its $q$-expansion equals $1$. For $k\in\mathbb{Z}$ not of the above shape ($k\geq4$ even), put $G_k=0$. Let polynomials $f_1(t), \dots, f_n(t)\in\mathbb{Z}[t]$ with positive leading terms and rational functions $g_0(t), \dots, g_n(t)\in\mathbb{Q}(t)$ and $N\in\mathbb{N}$ be given. The authors give a sufficient criterion on the above data for the following property: \[ \sum_{i=1}^n g_i(p) G_{f_i(p)} \equiv g_0(p) \pmod{p^N} \] for all prime numbers $p>P$, where $P$ is an effective constant, and the congruence means coefficientwise congruence of $q$-expansions. The paper is inspired by \textit{J. Rosen}'s article [Int. J. Number Theory 14, No. 7, 1895--1902 (2018; Zbl 1435.11047)], where the same type of congruences for the constant terms $-B_k/2k$ is shown ($B_k$ = $k$-th Bernoulli number).
