The first two sections, namely Introduction and Preliminaries, give an extensive sketch of the historical background, the notations and the main results of the paper. For each of the six basic hypergeometric series studied here, namely \(h_3(x,q), g_3(x,q)\), \(K(x,q), K_1(x,q), K_2(x,q)\) and \(g_2(x,q)\) (see also [\textit{R. J. McIntosh}, Can. J. Math. 64, No. 4, 935--960 (2012; Zbl 1264.33022)]) an explicit formula is given in six corresponding theorems. As an example one of them is reproduced here: Theorem. We have \begin{align*} K_{2,c}(x,q) &= \frac{q}{c_1}\,\frac{(xc_1,c_1/x,-q^2/c_1,1/c_2,qc_2,c_2,q/c_2)_{\infty}}{(c_1/c_2,qc_2/c_1,-q,xq,q/x,q/c_1c_2,c_1c_2)_{\infty}}\\ \quad &\times \sum_{-\infty}^{\infty}\,\frac{(q/xc_1,qx/c_1)_n}{(-q^2/c_1)_n}\,q^n+\hbox{idem}(c_1;c_2). \end{align*} Note that for a basic hypergeometric series \(M(q)=\sum_{n\geq 0}\,a(n; q)\) its associated bilateral series is defined as \(M_c(q)=\sum_{n=-\infty}^{\infty}\, a(n;q)\)). The authors study the dual nature of bilateral series associated with universal mock theta functions and prove an identity in terms of \(K_2(x,q)\).
