In a previous paper [\textit{R. Abuaf}, Int. Math. Res. Not. 2017, No. 22, 6943--6960 (2017; Zbl 1405.14044)], the author had introduced``homological units'' as a tool to study the invariance of Hodge numbers of projective varieties under derived equivalence. The basic idea is to recognize the endomorphism algebra \(H^\bullet(\mathcal O_X)\) of the structure sheaf based on its universal properties with respect to \(\mathrm{Hom}^{\bullet}(\mathcal F,\mathcal F)\) for all other objects \(\mathcal F\in D^b(X)\) of non-zero rank, and to identify it with suitable pieces of the Hodge structure on Hochschild cohomology. The present paper pursues these ideas to in the context of abstract 3-Calabi-Yau categories and specifically those that appear in semi-orthogonal decompositions of derived categories of Fano hypersurfaces of higher dimension according to Orlov and the physicists. The main results are: (i) a theorem establishing the invariance of the Hodge numbers with respect to different choices of rank function and homological unit, under the assumption that the unitary objects generate the numerical \(K\)-theory, and (ii) the calculation of these Hodge numbers in a series of interesting examples that feature in the mirror symmetry story for rigid Calabi-Yau 3-folds, including cubic sevenfolds and double quartic fivefolds. The paper is an enjoyable read based on familiarity with the Bondal-Orlov story and a brief consultation of the author's preceding work.
