The authors consider a space \(L_{p,w}\) which denotes the weighted \(L_p\) space of functions on the unit ball \(\mathbb{B}^d\) with a doubling weight \(w\) on \(\mathbb{B}^d\); \(1 \le p < \infty\). Further, for a polynomial \(P\) and \(\nabla P\) as the gradient of P, they define the Markov factor for \(L_{p,w}\) of a polynomial \(P\) as: \[\frac{\|\hspace{2pt}|\nabla P|\hspace{2pt}\|_{p,w}}{\|P\|_{p,w}}.\] The authors demonstrate that the worst-case Markov factors for \(L_{p,w}\) have a maximum degree of \(2\). In particular, they establish that the exponent \(2\) is sharp for the Gegenbauer weight, where Gegenbauer weight is defined as: \[w_\mu(x)=(1-|x|^2)^{\mu-\frac{1}{2}}, \quad \mu \ge 0.\] They also study the average case Markov factor for \(L_{2,w}\) on random polynomials with independent \(N(0,\sigma^2)\) coefficients and obtain that the upper bound of the expected Markov factor is of order degree to the \(3/2\), as compared to the degree squared worst case upper bound.
