The theory of holomorphic approximation originated with Runge and Weierstraß. The Runge theorem focuses on Runge pairs, i.e., \(D \subset D_1\), so any holomorphic function on \(D\) can be approximated by holomorphic functions on \(D_1\) (uniformly on compact sets). The authors of this paper prove a Runge-type theorem for slice monogenic functions. These functions take values in the Clifford algebra \(\mathbb{R}_3\) and are in the kernel of a generalized Cauchy-Riemann operator. To achieve this, the authors describe the homology of axially symmetric open subsets of the quadratic cone of \(\mathbb{R}_3.\) Another crucial fact is that \(\mathbb{R}_3 = \mathbb{R}_2 \oplus \mathbb{R}_2,\) where \(\mathbb{R}_2\) is the algebra of quaternions. It is important to remark that this splitting holds at the level of real vector space and real algebra.
