The concept of orthogonality plays a fundamental role in understanding the geometry of normed spaces. Unlike in Hilbert spaces, there are several different notions of orthogonality in the normed setting. The article under review proposes a new orthogonality type in normed spaces, which is based on invariant inner products defined on a linear space. The authors study some important properties of this newly introduced orthogonality type, including existence, uniqueness, and homogeneity. They also discuss the relation between this particular notion of orthogonality with other orthogonality types, including the so-called Birkhoff-James orthogonality, isosceles orthogonality, and Pythagorean orthogonality. It is not difficult to observe that this particular notion of orthogonality, as introduced by the authors, is not additive in general. Therefore, it is natural to investigate sufficient conditions for the local additivity of the orthogonality type which is discussed in the article. Moreover, the authors also introduce a new geometric constant which can act as a quantitative measure of the difference between this orthogonality and isosceles orthogonality. A characterization of inner product spaces among normed spaces is obtained in terms of this geometric constant, which further illustrates the applicability of this notion of orthogonality. The article is well written and in the view of the reviewer, presents a nice addition to the geometric study of normed spaces.
