The maximal pure spectrum of an Abelian group is the set of isomorphism classes of maximal pure subgroups. The authors describe the maximal pure spectra of divisible groups, free groups and Baer-Specker groups. They also consider the converse problem of when a collection of Abelian groups can occur as the maximal pure spectrum of some group. This is a much deeper question, and the authors deal with torsion-free algebraically compact groups, free groups, Whitehead groups and hereditarily \(\aleph_1\)-separable groups, both torsion-free and torsion. In the latter cases, certain undecidability questions arise.
