The contact metric \((\kappa,\mu)\)-manifolds were introduced by \textit{D. E. Blair, T. Koufogiorgos}, and \textit{B. J. Papantoniou} [Isr. J. Math. 91, No.~1--3, 189--214 (1995; Zbl 0837.53038)] and provide a generalization of Sasakian manifolds. Here, \(\kappa\) and \(\mu\) are real numbers. It was later proved by \textit{E. Boeckx} [Ill. J. Math. 44, No.~1, 212--219 (2000; Zbl 0969.53019)] that one necessarily has \(\kappa\leq 1\), and the condition \(\kappa=1\) characterizes the Sasakian structures. It was also shown that the contact metric \((\kappa,\mu)\)-structures with \(\kappa<1\) can be classified by using the invariant \(I=(1-(\mu/2))/\sqrt{1-\kappa}\). The paper under review points out the geometric significance of \(I\), by relating the aforementioned classification to the classification of the Legendre foliations given by \textit{M. Pang} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 320, No.~2, 417--455 (1990; Zbl 0702.53022)]. Among others, one also finds necessary conditions ensuring that a contact manifold allows for a compatible contact metric \((\kappa,\mu)\)-structure. In addition, one proves that, if \(| I|>1\), then there exists a compatible Sasakian structure, while if \(| I|<1\), then there exists a compatible Tanaka-Webster parallel structure.
