The authors study the multiplication operators \(M_\varphi\) with finite Blaschke product symbols \(\varphi\) on the Bergman space. They use the group-like property of local inverses of a finite Blaschke product and their analytic continuations on a subset of the unit disk. They combine the group-like property of local inverses and the nice representation of unitary operators in the commutant of the multiplication operators to obtain a symmetric and unitary matrix representation of the action of these unitary operators acting on reproducing kernels. Using this representation, the authors show that the largest \(C^*\)-algebra in the commutant of the multiplication operator \(M_\varphi\) with a finite Blaschke product symbol \(\varphi\) on the Bergman space is finite-dimensional and its dimension equals the number of connected components of the Riemann surface of \(\varphi^{-1}\circ\varphi\) over the unit disk. In addition, they show that, if the order of the Blaschke product \(\varphi\) is less than or equal to eight, then every \(C^*\)-algebra contained in the commutant of \(M_\varphi\) is abelian and hence the number of minimal reproducing subspaces of \(M_\varphi\) equals the number of connected components of the Riemann surface of \(\varphi^{-1}\circ \varphi\) over the unit disk.
