Let \(R=K[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) denote a polynomial ring with coefficients in a field \(K\). Fix a positive integer \(m\) and, given \(f\in R\), define \(f^{[m]}=f(x_1^m,\dots,x_n^m)\). If \(I\) is an ideal of \(R\), denote \[ I^{[m]} = (f^{[m]} : f\in I). \] If I is a homogeneous ideal, the authors relate extremal Betti numbers of \(R/I\) with those of \(R/I^{[m]}\) (Propositions~2.10 and 2.11). Using their results, they show that there exists \(i\) such that \(\beta_{i,i+r}\) is an extremal Betti number of \(R/I^s\), for all \(s\gg 0\), where \(r=\operatorname{reg}(R/I^s)\) (Theorem 2.15). In section~3, turning to the case of a monomial ideal, the authors relate primary decompositions of \(I\) and \(I^{[m]}\) (Theorem~3.2), their indices of stability, which are equal, (Theorem 3.5) and obtain the normally torsion-free property of \(I^{[m]}\) from that of \(I\) (Theorem 3.4).
