This article investigates the existence of left-invariant SKT (strong Kähler with torsion) and CYT (Calabi-Yau with torsion) metrics on compact semi-simple Lie groups equipped with Samelson's complex structure. The authors explore whether such metrics, which are both SKT and CYT, but not Bismut flat, can be found on these Lie groups. Using a symmetrization technique, the authors establish that the existence of left-invariant SKT or CYT metrics implies the existence of left-invariant and right \(T\)-invariant metrics, where \(T\) is a maximal torus. They provide characterizations for left-invariant SKT and CYT metrics that are also invariant under the right \(T\)-action. The authors then prove that on every compact semi-simple Lie group, a metric satisfying these conditions must be a bi-invariant metric or a product of metrics proportional to the Killing forms on the simple factors. Consequently, such a metric is Bismut flat. Additionally, the authors construct an explicit 5-parameter family of SKT metrics on SO(9), which are \(T\)-invariant for the natural choice of the torus \(T\).
