A rich literature has been produced in recent years on applying variational methods to boundary value problems for ODEs lead by a \(p\)-Laplacian operator, and for the analogous difference equations. Moreover, the effect of including impulsive conditions has been studied also. Also, a unified approach has been tried by replacing the real domain or the integer domain with general time scales. This article may be seen as adopting the model of \textit{Y.-H. Su} and \textit{Z. Feng} [Appl. Anal. 97, No. 13, 2269--2287 (2018; Zbl 1405.34079)] -- having into account the effect of adding impulsive conditions. The authors state results on the existence of one periodic solution or two nontrivial periodic solutions in periodic time scales. The main ingredients are calculus on time scales (see e.g. [\textit{A. Cabada} and \textit{D. R. Vivero}, J. Difference Equ. Appl. 11, No. 11, 1013--1028 (2005; Zbl 1081.39011)]) and critical point theory [\textit{P. H. Rabinowitz}, Minimax methods in critical point theory with applications to differential equations. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (1986; Zbl 0609.58002); \textit{H. Brézis} and \textit{L. Nirenberg}, Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 44, No. 8--9, 939--963 (1991; Zbl 0751.58006); \textit{J. Mawhin} and \textit{M. Willem}, Critical point theory and Hamiltonian systems. New York etc.: Springer-Verlag (1989; Zbl 0676.58017)]. Some statements in the paper appear to contain misprints or innacurate wording that may make it difficult for the reader to follow the exposition.
