Given a topological property \(P\) one calls a space \(X\) a star-P-space if for every open cover \(\mathcal{U}\) of \(X\) there is a subspace with property \(P\) such that \(X=\operatorname{St}(Y,\mathcal{U})\).\par The authors consider spaces that one could, but should not, call \textit{star-Menger} as this term is already taken, see \textit{L. D. Kočinac} [Publ. Math. Debr. 55, No. 3--4, 421--431 (1999; Zbl 0932.54022)]. Therefore the authors use the term star-\(S_{\text{fin}}(\mathcal{O},\mathcal{O})\) in case \(P\) is the Menger property. They begin by exhibiting examples that show that this property is quite independent of other star properties. It is, for example, not implied by nor does it imply the star ccc property or star-countable compactness. They then compare this property with other selection properties and quite examples to show that the old notion of star Menger is independent of the present property star-\(S_{\text{fin}}(\mathcal{O},\mathcal{O})\). The remainder of the paper is devoted to an investigation of the preservation of this property under various topological operations and of characterization of it in some classes of spaces.
