Lorentzian manifolds properly isometrically embeddable in Minkowski spacetime (Q6117091)

The author investigates Lorentz manifolds properly isometrically embeddable in a Minkowski spacetime. He finds two possible characterisations and obtains further properties of these spacetimes that may lead to further characterisations (Theorem 1.12). He also studies the form of the metric for these spaces (Proposition 1.17). The author observes that these spacetimes, which are called proper, could play some role in physics, due to their connection to globally hyperbolic spacetimes. He concludes that the embedding problem might lead to new strategies to attack causality and metric properties for spacetimes. The author obtains finally, by taking advantage of the embedding, the infinitesimal version of the distance formula.
