Cluster categories were defined to be certain orbit categories of certain triangulated categories. Clusters correspond to maximal rigid objects. Mutation is obtained in the following way. One removes from a maximal rigid object an indecomposable summand and shows there is a unique way to complete the remaining object by an indecomposable one to obtain a maximal rigid object different from the original maximal rigid object. Fomin-Zelevinsky defined mutation in a very combinatorial fashion and there is a procedure to link these two concepts by taking endomorphism algebras of the maximal rigid object in case these endomorphism algebras have a quiver without loops or \(2\)-cycles. The present paper removes the hypothesis that there are no loops and gives a correspondence in case there may be loops but \(2\)-cycles still are not allowed. The authors apply their theory to type \(B\) cluster combinatorics.
