The author's idea is to study the application of the effective Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction to a DAE system, at a Hopf bifurcation. The original part of this work is the generalization of the classical method used in the case of ODEs. Provided stability assumptions on the differential index of this system, the (nonlinear) algebraic part is solved by a local mapping around the bifurcation point, while the differential part is locally handled using the center manifold technique. Thus, the author shows how to obtain numerically the equivalent linear system (on the constraint manifold defined by the DAE algebraic constraints) in Theorem 3.1 and how the perturbations of the associated periodic solution will behave. This yields to Propositions 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 which allow to conclude about the stability of the system at the Hopf bifurcation: this application is classical, but here it is shown how to actually compute the normal form. In Section 5, a clear example from nonlinear electrical networks gives a nice illustration of both the concepts and the numerical implementation of the algorithms of Sections 3 and 4. I recommend this paper for its clear exposition and the quality of the bibliography.
